Summary

Inside the park

The name Ohori means a trench and it derives from the fact that Kuroda Nagamasa, old lord of Fukuoka, reclaimed the land of this area, originally called Kusagae, which used to be a part of the Hakata Bay and made a trench for Fukuoka castle.

The present park was re-constructed by Fukuoka city, modeling on the West Lake of China, and opened in 1929. This park is one of the most beautiful water parks in Japan and the fireworks festival is held here in summer. This relaxing spot is loved by local people.
