Tenjin(Chuo-ku)
Summary
The construction of this building, designed by Tatsuno Kingo and Kataoka Yasushi, ones of the most famous architects in Meiji period, was completed in 1909 to house a Kyushu branch office of Nihon Seimei company. It is 19th century British style with red bricks and the external walls of granite, and also carries other various features such as steeples and dome structures. It was used as a historical museum until 1990 and recreated as a cultural information center with a Fukuoka City Bungaku Kan (literature hall) collecting and introducing various information about literature. The first floor is a salon space exhibiting the works of and items related to the writers from the local area, and the second floor has three rental conference rooms.
