Preparation for a trip and if trouble arises while traveling
ATM Machine (Currency Exchange)
The central branch of the banks and post office are mostly located in Tenjin and Hakata station area. Office hour is 9:00am -3:00pm, but ATM machines are available until late at night, also during public holidays. Please keep in mind that the service charge is applied depending on the day and time of usage.
You can exchange money at Fukuoka airport, the international terminal of Hakata port and the main banks around Hakata Station and the Tenjin area. Basically, exchange service at the main banks is available from 9:00 to 15:00 on weekdays. But at the foreign exchange shop at the Tenjin branch of Fukuoka bank, the service is available from 9:00 to 17:00. There is also a satellite office of Fukuoka bank at the international terminal of Fukuoka airport and the service is available from 8:00 to 21:00. These facilities offer the service also on Saturdays and Sundays. You can also go to major hotels in the center of the city and Daikokuya shops (discount ticket and coupon store) for currency exchange service.
Please note that some ATM machines do not accept usage of credit card issued in overseas due to the reason of its partnership. However, ATM machines at Seven Bank and the post office let you withdraw some cash with foreign credit cards.
