Glittering Winter of Fukuoka

Hatsuuri/Bargain

If you would like to enjoy shopping in Fukuoka, wait till “Bargain” time in January and July!
“Bargain” is a sale of all kinds of items from clothing, household goods to interior goods with a discount of 10-70 %.

In Japan, the first sale of New Year’s holiday is called “hatsuuri”, or an opening sale, which most shops start from January 2nd, and some January 1st!

“Fukubukuro,” a bag full of various items, is very popular during “hatsuuri.”
Lots of people rush into the shops aiming to grab the big Bargain, “fukubukuro.”

Department stores in Tenjin, the biggest shopping district in Fukuoka, usually start “hatsuuri” from January 2nd through late January.
“Bargain” in July begins on July 1st and continues till late July.

“Bargain” begins at department stores and fashion stores when Hakata Gion Yamakasa, a Fukuoka’s proud festival, kicks off.
Please make an inquiry with the department stores and fashion stores for “Hatsuuri/Bargain” information. You can also go to “Fukuoka Tourist Information Center” in JR Hakata Station or Lion Square in Tenjin.
