Nakasu-Kawabata

The Nakasu-Kawabata area is surrounded by Tenjin, where there are many department stores and fashion buildings, Hakata, which has JR Hakata Station and Nakasu, the largest entertainment district in Kyushu.

The area is accessible within 10 minutes walk from Tenjin and Hakata. Nakasu-Kawabata subway station gives great accessibility to this area.

The charm of this area comes from the combination of the good old tradition of Hakata and new culture. While there are old stores dealing with traditional art and crafts and Japanese confections, mainly along Hakata Kawabata shopping arcade, the oldest shopping arcade in Fukuoka, located near Kushida Shrine, the tutelary shrine for the town of Hakata, the area is spotted with new cultural facilities such as Hakata Riverain, a commercial complex with eeny-meeny-miney-mo housing top brand shops and restaurants, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum exhibiting the contemporary artworks of Asia and Hakataza Theater, which holds kabuki plays in February and June.

Hakata Kawabata shopping arcade, Hakata Riverain and Hakataza Theater are all adjacent to Nakasu-Kawabata Subway Station.
After a short walk through Hakata Kawabata shopping arcade from the subway station, you will come across Canal City Hakata, one of the popular tourist spots of Fukuoka.

Take a stroll in this area and meet the tradition and culture of Hakata.
