overview of the park

This was a field of the battle between Mongolian and Japanese army at the time of Bun-ei invasion. The old battle field was reconstructed into the present park. In the park stand statues of an old emperor Kameyama who was in the reign at the time of the invasion and of Nichiren, famous Buddhist monk of the same age. There is also Toka-ebisu Shrine dedicated to the god of happiness Ebisu and also Mongolian Invasion Museum. The prototype of the statue of the emperor Kameyama was made by Yamazaki Cho-un, a master of wooden sculpture and on the base of the statue are inscribed calligraphy letters meaning “the enemy has surrendered” by an old member of royal family Arisugawanomiya Taruhito.
