The festival of dance started in 2000 with the organizer's aim to make it into a major autumn festival in Asia. With participants from Hokkaido to Kyushu as well as from overseas, they have their best chance to have cultural exchange through dancing. It is a lot of fun just to see dancers in their original costume and music, and choreography. The word Fukukoi is an abbreviation of Fukuoka Yosakoi (Yosakoi is a style of dance) and contains in it a wish for the happiness (fuku) to come (koi).
