Summary

On the first day of new year’s holiday, about 50 soldiers in traditional armor suits gather at Iimori Shrine. That is itself a sight to see. After flamens shoot arrows in four cardinal directions to get rid of the evils, the soldiers will start to shoot arrows one after another. This valiant ritual brings you in a pleasantly solemn atmosphere of a new year’s day. This shrine ritual originates from the custom of ancient clans, that were based in Sawara area in the Kamakura period, praying for victory before a battle. If you want to have a special new year’s day, visit Iimori Shrine next year.
