This festival is said to have originated 800 years ago. At the forefront of the Dontaku parade held on the 3rd and the 4th of May, Matsubayashi block shows a distinct presence and attracts many visitors. This traditional marching group consists of some schools each with their own style of costume and song. Just looking at the group marching seems to bring you a good-luck charm. This tradition is conserved by a local group called Hakata Matsubayashi Association.
