This shrine is dedicated to the gods of Kamukahobi-no-mikoto, Ohkahobi-no-mikoto and Yasomagatsuhi-no-kami. It is named after a defense facility of Dazaifu called Keigo-sho, which was sited near Korokan (ancient guesthouse for diplomats). You can find the name in Manyoshu (an ancient collection of poetry) and the shrine used to be sites of such historical events as the revolt of Fujiwara Sumitomo and Toi invasion. Generations of local lords deeply worshipped this shrine as a tutelary shrine of Fukuoka castle and a god of childbirth for Kuroda Tadayuki, the second lord of the province. It is conveniently located in the central part of Tenjin and adjoined by Kego Park, an urban oasis for local people.
